Guides
Plain-language explainers that go with our calculators: how a number is worked out, what the rules say, and the mistakes people make.
A calculator tells you the number; a guide tells you why it is that number and what to do with it. Each guide on this page is written for a question people in India actually ask: how a bank computes an EMI and why a "flat rate" costs far more than it sounds, whether a lump sum should cut your home-loan EMI or its tenure, when a SIP beats a one-time investment, what the PPF rules really say, and how to write an amount in words on a cheque so it is not returned.
Every worked example is produced by the same tested function that powers the matching calculator, so the figures in the text and in the tool never disagree. Rules and rates are quoted from official sources, which are listed at the end of each guide with the date we last verified them. Guides are written by the ToolJagat Editorial Team under our editorial policy, updated when a rule or rate changes, and the "Last updated" date is shown on every page. They are general information, not personal financial or legal advice.
